Darlington
Darlington is a smaller South Carolina city that
joins agriculture, racing, history and hospitality. Once
rich farmland, Darlington was a big producer of cotton in
South Carolina, and still today many cotton farmers still
grow the crop in the area. Another reason for Darlington’s
fame is the Darlington Raceway that was built in 1950, and
was once NASCAR’s first stock car racing superspeedway.
Darlington is also rich in history, with many historic
sights and houses in the area.
Economy
The economy of Darlington was long based on cotton and
agriculture. Today, even though Darlington has experienced a
lot of growth through NASCAR and other businesses moving to
the area, the economy is still based a great deal on
agriculture and farming. The areas around Darlington are
very rural.

The Darlington County school system is committed to teaching
and learning and excellence for all. They continue to work
with students, their families and the community to create a
creative learning environment.
Neighborhoods
Darlington is very close to Florence, Quinby, Timmonsville,
Lamar, Hartsville and Society Hill. It is approximately 80
miles from Columbia.
Hospitals
There are several hospitals and medical parks very close to
Darlington in Florence, South Carolina. The Carolina’s
Health System is located in Florence and is a major full
service hospital and medical park.
Things to Do
Darlington is home to a few theatres and music halls, as
well as a few museums and festivals. There are several
historical race memorabilia museums near the racetrack, as
well as the famous speedway that boasts NASCAR and other
races each season. Darlington is also home to the SC Sweet
Potato Festival which draws nearly 20,000 people each year.
People come from all over to enjoy games, entertainment, car
shows, beauty pageants and good southern cooking. Each year
there are several events held in Darlington that are fun to
attend.
